Bay Area Regional Medical Center to open this month

Houston-based Medistar Corp.'s Bay Area Regional Medical Center is set to open July 21, with planning for the second phase to begin this fall.

The hospital, at 200 Blossom St. in Webster, is expected to employ 520 people full-time in fiscal year 2014, and approximately 98 percent of its jobs are filled, the company said in a statement.

Along with 104 patient suites and 22 intensive care unit rooms, the hospital has a full-service emergency room with 11 treatment rooms, five operating suites, three cardiac cath suites and one hybrid operating room that functions as a cardiac cath suite and an operating suite.

The first phase was designed to create more than 100 beds, the Houston Business Journal previously reported, and the next phase will expand it to 202 beds, according to the company.

Phase II designing and planning is scheduled to begin in October, and completion of the second phase is expected in September 2015.

When it is fully built out, the hospital will have 275 patient rooms in 11 floors. It was designed to initially have nine floors.

Houston-based Page is the architect of record for the project, which was constructed by Houston-based Linbeck Group. Medistar worked with Tennessee-based Surgical Development Partners to develop the hospital.

Bay Area Regional Medical Center is one of many recent health care-related projects in the Clear Lake region. That area was one of the top five medical office markets last year, Transwestern told HBJ at the time.
