  • Operational Wellness

The newly-opened Quarry Run Regional Operations Center has been the subject of attention for some time. The first-responder facility serves multiple counties, some of which are the fastest growing in the US. Its state of the art emergency and network operations, public safety answering point (PSAP), data centers and hardened core were featured on tour during the recent NENA (National Emergency Number Association) Annual Conference in nearby San Antonio. Now, BD+C Magazine (Building Design + Construction) has run an extensive article on the facility design and how it will benefit surrounding communities.

  • Engineering Technology to Improve Building Performance

The past 20 years in the commercial building industry have driven tremendous change in countless aspects of building design, construction, and operation. Energy requirement compliance also has evolved dramatically with variable frequency drives (VFDs), once a luxury reserved only for high-budget projects. Now they have become the accepted means for motor-speed reduction on all but fractional-horsepower motors. Page Principal and Senior Project Manager John Gross III, PE, ATD, shares his expertise on VFDs in an article for Consulting Specifying Engineer Magazine.

Innovating Research Environments

Page Senior Principal Art Chavez just attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony that officially opened a Page-designed project with the potential to advance the energy industry. The new 60,000-square-foot Aramco Services Houston Research Center is located in a repurposed high bay office space that began life as a warehouse. Under Page’s expertise, it is now a state-of-the-art research and development (R&D) facility that will conduct upstream energy research in exploration, drilling, field development and production management.

Senior Principal Chavez commented that Page’s repurposing of the Research Center structure, which retained virtually its original footprint, is an example of how the firm successfully demonstrated its understanding of the complexities of the Science / Technology core market. Additionally, it reflects Page’s collaborative design approach in several ways. Read More

Designing Facilities to Withstand Technological Threats

In addition to conventional threats like flood, fire and wind, facility owners and operators are increasingly looking for ways to protect their critical infrastructure from man-made, technological threats such as HEMP (High altitude Electromagnetic Pulse) and IEMI (Intentional Electromagnetic Interference) to unpredictable natural events like solar and geomagnetic storms.

At Page, we have collaborated with world-class resources to develop methods to protect commercial facilities and their critical infrastructure from the detrimental effects caused by such events. Read More
